發現遺體的七月二十五號被訂為為聖日,七月二十五號為禮拜天的年份則為聖年(the holy year of St. James,Año Santo Jacobeo,Ano Santo Xacobeo)。

後來只要能通向Santiago de Compostela的路線就被稱為Way of St. James,西語就是Camino de Santiago。

(Camino Francés,The French Way)和經過Salamanca的白銀之路(Vía de la Plata,Silver Way),從鄰近國家出發的葡萄牙之路(Camino Portugués,The Portuguese Way),甚至整個歐洲的任何路線都可以稱為Camino de Santiago,只要最後能夠到達Santiago de Compostela。

Camino Francés

我所行走的路線即是最古老的Camino Francés,從法國邊境的Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port(法語意思是Saint John at the foot of the mountain pass)出發,越過庇里牛斯山(Pyrenees),途經Pamplona、Burgos、León等大城市,最後抵達Santiago de Compostela,全程約八百公里。

(Oficina del Peregrino S.A.M.I Catedral)可以辦理完成Camino的認證。

Buen Camino

Camino de Santiago is one of the main travel routes within Spain, the destination is Santiago de Compostela which locates in the autonomous regions of Galicia. Camino de Santiago, the route to Rome, the Via Francigena and Jerusalem (יְרוּשָׁלַיִם‎) pilgrimage route are the most important of the major pilgrimage routes in Catholicism.

Camino de Santiago is already a very popular travel routes in Europe, with a combination of religion, sports and hiking in nature. It is more able to understand to say that is like the Circling Island by bicycle Dajia Mazu pilgrimage pilgrimage activities in Taiwan.

According to legend, one of Jesus' twelve disciples, St. James(Santiago in Spanish, Saint Jacques in French), was murdered. The transportation of the remains from Jerusalem back to the north of Spain on board was hit by the storm. There was a wedding celebrated on the seashore then. Without hesitation, the groom went to aid and was dragged by the large wave. When surfaced again, he was covered and protected by scallops. It was believed that was a miracle by the APOSTLE. The scallop has become a symbol of St. James, also signs on Camino de Santiago.

Later, the remains was buried at a specific place. Until AD 813, a hermit saw a lot of meteor fall in the same place in the night. Being curious, the shepherd went to check and found the body of St. James again. The news spread to the Pope and King Alfonso II. This King went to the place and conducted the holy burial. The route of this King across Spain is now the predecessor of the Camino Francés. The place was named Santiago de Compostela by St. James' name. And Compostela, Campus Stellae in Latin, means Field of the Star. The cathedral, Catedral de Santiago de Compostela was built and now is the historic center of the urban area. It was said that St. James' body was found on July 25. Thus July 25 is the Holy day, and the year which July 25 is on Sunday is the Holy year of St. James(Año Santo Jacobeo, Ano Santo Xacobeo).

Incidentally, 三貂角(san diau jieu)is the most northeast point of Taiwan. In 1626, a Spain aircraft from the Philippines arrived here. The crew thought that 三貂角(san diau jieu)seemed like Santiago de Compostela in their country, and named the place the same name. The Taiwan people turned sound in local language after that. Now the place still has the same name.

As long as a route leads to Santiago de Compostela is known as the Way of St. James, the Camino de Santiago in Español as well.

In addition to the main routes within Spain, such as Camino Francés(The French Way), and Vía de la Plata(The Silver Way)through Salamanca, Camino Portugués(The The Portuguese Way)starts from the neighboring countries. Even the whole of Europe any route known as the Camino de Santiago, to be able to reach Santiago de Compostela finally.

I walk on the oldest route, Camino Francés. From the French border, Saint-Jean-the Pied-de-Port(Saint John at the foot of the mountain pass in French), across the Pyrenees shelter, via big cities such as Pamplona, Burgos, and León, finally arrive in Santiago de Compostela, with a distance of about eight hundred kilometers.

Travelers walking on Camino are pilgrims(peregrino in Español). Pilgrimage are usually walking, cycling or horse riding. Pilgrims go to the pilgrim's office for Credencial del Peregrino, a passport-like certification. With credencial, pilgrims can stay in shelters(albergue in Español)on Camino. As a result, they can do pilgrimage without worrying about living things.

Scallops, of course, has become a token of pilgrims. Pilgrims wear scallops from the invasion of evil spirits. Scallops are usually concave outward expression when pilgrims are on Camino, also symbolizes the acceptance of sharing. After completion of the pilgrimage, the convex turn out and is painted a symbol of the cross of St. James. The three flowers of the cross represent the "honor without spot."

The pattern of scallops has become a symbol of the Camino, any road leading to the same place - Santiago de Compostela. Scallops have converted the pattern to be a astral, as indicators of the modern Camino.

To complete Camino, pilgrims have to walk at least completed one hundred kilometers, or cycle at least two hundred kilometers. By Credencial del Peregrino, pilgrims apply certification in pilprim's office, Oficina del Peregrino S.A.M.I Catedral, near Catedral de Santiago de Compostela. Receiving the certification, one could be pardoned half of the crime after he died. If it is in Año Santo Jacobeo, this certification forgive all sins.

Buen Camino!
