(iii) Extra porters are included in the price of the trek. Normally porters are included just to carry the camping equipment. If you want a porter to carry your sleeping bag and clothes then you will have to pay extra.Estimate at about US$1 per kilogram per day.
It gives you the estimate, so the real price of extra porters can varies from a tour operator to another.
re: Should I pay extra to hire a porter during the Inca Trail? -
I´d just finish my inca trail on 24/11. I don´t think you need hire another potter and actually it is not be allowed. As you know the inca trail is limited the number of the people. But you can pay a little more for carrying your own sleeping bag. But you can carry your own stuff. Because you won´t bring too much in that trail, trust me.
4 days 3 nights hiking in Inca Trek was very impressive, but I would not do it again if I want to go Machu Picchu next time.
It was really tired.
One more thing......
I join Inca Trek during Christmas.
Most Asian people who I met on the way were almost from Singapore. (Even in the different groups) It was quite amazing.
However, I met more Japanese in Machu Picchu.
Most of them join the bus or train tour to go there instead of hiking through the Inca Trek.
Now I'm in Argentina, wants to do the inca trail during June,
after ask for many agency in cusco, I have some good experience.
Maybe can share with you, specially you want to book the Inca trail in high season ( June, July) I think during low season, you don't need to book ahead, besides your trip to Cusco is very short, need to be good orginize.
1. book earlier ( trekking at June, july), and don't book the period during 20th June-25th June, casue the 24th June it's the sun festival in Cusco.
3. the cost of the tour during this year 2007, is around 480 usd to 250 usd(4d/3n tour). If you have ISIC student card, there will be about 25-30 usd discount. And make sure the price included the entrance of Machu Picchu.
4. Choose one then book, and pay the deposit. Normally they will ask you to transfer money instead pay by credit card. So you can ask them how to transfer money via Western Union, or by bank system. The deposit normally cost from the 30% to 50% trekking fee. Then when you arrive there, you pay the rest.
Ok, that's it. I've choose one tour agency, but I haven't trekking with them so can't tell you if it's good or not. I'll report back later.
And the attached file is one of the agency send to me, it explain very clearly about what you have to prepare. Hope this will help. But I didn't choose this Agency, cause their tour is very expensive.
Hi, if still want to join Inca trail during June, try to email all the agency in Cusco, I don't know why, but every agency have different avability in different date. I'm very lucky to book the 15th June, so ask quickly and book asap.
