Just online chatted with NZ transportation staff. This is part of our conversation:
me: I am a working holiday visa holder this year and I would like to ask about whether my probationary class driving license in Hong Kong is valid to use in NZ
me: I got my probationary class licence for 4 months. As I need to wait 1 year to get my full licence, could I drive in NZ?
Christine: You can drive in New Zealand (NZ) on you overseas licence for 12 months from the last date you entered NZ. Your overseas licence must be current, if it is not in English a translation of the licence is required.
Christine: You must drive to the conditions of your overseas licence.
me: I saw this from your website. "if you have a learner, restricted or provisional licence the weight limit will be lower."
Christine: Did you get a licence in Hong Kong and do you have that licence with you in NZ.
Me: Yes, I will bring the licence with me to NZ.原文載於: 背包客棧自助旅行論壇 https://www.backpackers.com.tw/forum/showthread.php?t=1698997#post8932363
Christine: That is good, you can drive in NZ on that licence. If there is any conditions or restrictions on your overseas licence then you must drive in NZ to the same conditions or restrictions.
Me: Got it! Great!!!!!
The conclusion is: Yes! We can drive using P Licence.
